Kenmure Street protest halts Home Office immigration raid in Glasgow

Nicola Sturgeon has accused the Home Office of creating a “dangerous” situation in Glasgow after protesters forced Border Agency officials to call off an immigration raid in her constituency.
The Scottish first minister said the decision to seize asylum seekers during Eid al-Fitr from a Muslim community at the centre of a coronavirus outbreak had been “staggeringly irresponsible” and demanded that ministers agree never to repeat the action.
After a seven-hour stand-off in which hundreds of protesters surrounded an immigration enforcement van and prevented it from leaving, Police Scotland released the two men “to protect the safety, public health and wellbeing” of everyone involved.
At one stage a protester lay under the van and 200 more blocked the van into Kenmure Street, in the south
