Eight years after her famous Olympic victory over Natasha Jonas that sparked a women’s boxing revolution in the UK and Ireland, Katie Taylor is preparing to make more history in the sport on Saturday night. The 34-year-old puts her WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles on the line against Spain’s Miriam Gutierrez in London.

Taylor’s triumph over Jonas set new decibel records at London’s ExCel and it is a mark of how far women’s boxing has progressed that talk of a professional rematch between the pair raises the very real prospect of a post-COVID stadium-filler.

Taylor said: “I think it would make a fantastic fight.

“She showed in her last fight that she’s still capable of producing great performances, she is at that level and it is a fight that people would be very, very interested in.

“If it’s a fight that people want to see then I’m very happy to take that fight, and I’m sure she would be too.

How much is Katie Taylor worth?

Taylor’s exact net worth is not known, however, she now earns six-figure sums for most of her fights.

According to Sportekz, she picked up €350,000 (£313,000) for each of her bouts against Delfine Persoon and Christina Linardatou in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The rematch against Persoon earlier this year saw the Irish star earn a reported €1.2million (£1.08m).

Sportekz also claims that Taylor will receive a purse of €1.5m (£1.35m) for the clash with Gutierrez.

The Irish star, though, says is not motivated by money, insisting her legacy is more important.

“Half the time, I don’t even know how much money I’m getting for a fight,” she told the Telegraph.

She added: “I ask, ‘Really? I’m getting that much?’.

“It’s all about legacy for me. I just want to make history in the sport.”
