The epic showdown we have all been waiting for between EastEnders legends Kathy and Cindy Beale (Gillian Taylforth and Michelle Collins) has finally happened, and it was everything we hoped for and more.

There has never been a lot of love lost between Cindy and Kathy – which is understandable considering Cindy tried to have Kathy’s son murdered – so we expected fireworks, and that was exactly what we got.

Despite their history, Kathy was the first person Cindy went searching for after arriving in Albert Square, and it wasn’t long before she’d found her and had made her presence known.

Kathy’s double take will likely go down in EastEnders history as one of the most iconic moments ever, as the realisation of who was stood in her kitchen slowly dawned on her.

Poor Kathy had a lot to get her head around as Cindy dropped bombshell after bombshell, revealing the truth about her witness protection and the fact she’d been living with Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) for the past year or so.

Yes, that is the same Ian Beale she went to prison for trying to kill in 1998.

Despite their obvious hatred for one another, and their countless differences, there is one thing that Cindy and Kathy have in common, and it wasn’t long before that was brought up.

You know, the whole being dead thing.

Viewers will know that Cindy isn’t the first EastEnders character to have made a miraculous return from the dead, with Kathy herself having shocked everyone with her sudden appearance back in 2015.

…But Cindy was quick to follow suit (Picture: BBC)

As Kathy ranted that she’d rather see both Ian and Peter (Thomas Law) in prison than living with Cindy, her daughter-in-law dropped the line we’d all been waiting for.

‘I don’t think you’re best placed to judge me, are you Kathy? I hear you had your own little sabbatical out in South Africa…’

Mic. Drop.

Kathy was understandably furious, as she rightly pointed out that faking her death had been out of her control, and was down to her abusive partner, Gavin Sullivan.

Cindy wouldn’t hear it though, as she argued that Kathy was no better than her, and would continue to put herself ahead of her children.

Kathy had done well to keep her hands to herself up until that point, but Cindy’s comments about her ‘psycho’ son Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) were a step too far, and earned Cindy a well deserved slap.

It wasn’t long before Cindy had retaliated, giving Kathy her second slap in as many months.

Shockingly, it was Kathy’s next shove that ultimately led to the pair finding some common ground, as they stared down at a smashed photo of Lucy Beale, which had been the main casualty of their catfight.

This led them both to settle down and confide in each other about their guilt for not being around when Lucy was murdered.

Could this truce be set to continue, or will Kathy and Cindy’s long-running feud continue until the day they both actually die?
