Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards: Jorge Masvidal gives his prediction

Usman #Usman

Jorge Masvidal has given his official prediction for Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards at UFC 278 this summer.

On August 20 in Salt Lake City, Kamaru Usman will finally defend the UFC welterweight title against Leon Edwards after years of protesting from ‘Rocky’ that he deserves a shot at the gold. The two fought back in 2015 with Usman getting his hand raised, but in the present day, they’re both incredibly different fighters in comparison to where they were back then.

From a technical standpoint you could make the argument that this is the best championship bout you could make at 170 pounds right now. Either way, though, we’re expecting fireworks, even if this isn’t considered to be the ‘sexiest’ title showdown of the year thus far.

One man who will be watching very closely is none other than Jorge Masvidal, who knows both men pretty well – if only for different reasons.

During a recent interview, ‘Gamebred’ gave his thoughts on who will walk out of Utah with the belt around their waist.

“I don’t [see Edwards winning], to tell you the truth. Look, it’s still a fight, anything could happen, there’s no 1,000% winning for anybody in this sport, I don’t care if they’re undefeated, it’s just a matter of time.

“I think that Usman wins more than Leon wins if they were to fight five times, you know? He’s a little bit more complete and I think at the end of it, it’ll come down to the wrestling, to tell you the truth. I think on the feet, Leon is a little bit more polished, better setups, more variety of attacks, but with Usman’s wrestling, I think he’ll keep Leon honest to where he won’t open up how he usually does on a lot of guys. I see Usman winning.”

If Leon Edwards can pull off the upset, he’s already said that he’d like to defend the welterweight title against Masvidal back home in London.

If Usman retains, though, the chances are slim to none that he’ll get a trilogy fight with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, especially given his recent one-sided loss at the hands of bitter rival Colby Covington.
