Kah’s first ride back finishes midfield

Buenos Noches #BuenosNoches

Jamie Kah has safely completed her first race ride back from a brain injury, finishing fifth on Chris Waller’s Kalino ($2.90) in race 5 at Randwick on Saturday.

Kah was Victoria’s leading metro rider before a horror fall at Flemington in March, which saw her taken to hospital in critical condition.

This incurred a several-month layoff and left Kah facing repeated concussion tests and brain scans, before being given clearance to ride by the Racing Victoria medical team earlier this week.

Despite finishing unplaced aboard the race favourite, Kah certainly did her part, getting the son of Pierro out of the gates rapidly and into a share of the lead early.

Kalino had his chance, but the swoopers were coming and it was a familiar horse in Matthew Smith’s Buenos Noches who finished best, storming clear late to win impressively.

It was deja vu in her second ride back on another Waller runner, Bonny Ezra; Kah once again got her mount into a lovely spot, this time taking shortcuts along the rails, but the horse failed to let down when presented with the run.

Kah has two rides still to come for the day, including Annabelle Neasham’s Zaaki in the Group 1 Winx Stakes, who is the race’s current $3.90 favourite.
