Jurgen Klopp speaks out on what he ‘won’t accept’ about Takumi Minamino transfer after Liverpool exit

Taki #Taki

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says it’s ‘hard to see’ Takumi Minamino leave Liverpool, but his move to Monaco is one the Japan international ‘thoroughly deserves’.

Minamino has today completed his move to the Ligue 1 side having initially joined the Reds from RB Salzburg in January 2020. Liverpool will pocket an initial £12.9m from the deal, with a further £2.6m in potential add-ons.

The 27-year-old made 55 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and finished last season as the top goalscorer in both domestic cup competitions. The Reds won both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last term and Minamino played a crucial role in the team’s route to both finals.

Klopp has shared his thoughts on Minamino’s time on Merseyside, as he told Liverpoolfc.com : “It’s hard to see Taki go, but it’s a great move for him and one he thoroughly deserves. An amazing professional; super, talented player. As a person, he is full of warmth and makes everyone feel positive. A manager’s dream, to be honest.

“I’m sure there will be those who think it didn’t quite work out. Those who think this are wrong. I don’t accept that. His contribution far outweighs the opportunities we were able to give, in terms of starting matches.

“He made us better each and every day he was with us – not just in the games he played in but every single session in training. Perfect attitude, winner’s mentality. His performances and his goals are the reason we have had to redecorate the Champions Wall so often. His achievements here will stand the test of time.”

Minamino wasn’t short of suitors this summer as Lyon, Atalanta, Leeds United, Southampton and Wolves were all interested in securing his signature. However, it is Monaco who won the race in a deal that could be worth up to £15.5m.
