Jurgen Klopp jokes Nottingham Forest fans ‘should start singing that song more often’ after dismissive Darwin Nunez chant made when he came on as a Liverpool substitute …

Forest #Forest

Jurgen Klopp had an epic reaction to Nottingham Forest’s fan chant against Darwin Nunez – after the substitute scored Liverpool’s 99th-minute winner at The City Ground.

The Uruguayan player came off the bench, but left it late to secure the winning goal for the Reds deep in stoppage time – to the fury of the home team and their fans.

Nunez was met with hostile chants from Nottingham Forest fans as he came onto the pitch, replacing Andy Robertson in the 60th minute.

In the direction of the 24-year-old striker, Forest fans sang: ‘You’re just a s*** Andy Carroll.’

However, he snatched the winner in the dying seconds of the game, meeting a lovely cross with his head and directing the ball into the bottom corner.

Nottingham Forest fans declared Nunez to be a ‘s*** Andy Carroll’ when he came on as a sub

Klopp said he understood the Carroll reference from the fans, and felt that Nunez did as well

After the game, Klopp said: ‘I would not sing a song like that. I would not try to wind Darwin up!’

The German manager, who is leaving Anfield at the end of the season, added: ‘People should start singing that song (‘s*** Andy Carroll’) more often!’

Klopp revealed that he understood the reference, and believed that Nunez also knew what the chant meant.

The goal came with controversy though, with referees’ analyst Mark Clattenburg to argue Nottingham Forest’s case to PGMOL after Nunez’s late winner was allowed to stand.

Instead of returning possession after a head injury to Ibrahima Konate, goalkepeer Caoimhin Kelleher picked out a team-mate and Liverpool went on the attack, which Clattenburg argued was against the laws of the game.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis could also face a rap from the FA after storming down the tunnel to confront the match officials after the game.

Klopp’s side secured three wins in a week in different competitions thanks to Nunez’s goal

It meant Liverpool secured a trio of wins in three competitions across a week, after winning the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and beating Southampton in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Liverpool travel to Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday evening, before a home game against title rivals Manchester City on March 10.
