Jujutsu Kaisen: The Plan To Save Megumi, Explained

Jujutsu Kaisen is edging closer to its end with each passing chapter, and fans have thoroughly enjoyed the story over the course of the last few weeks. Finally, the battle versus Sukuna is progressing with great intensity and that is exactly what fans have always wanted to see in this arc. Although it had its ups and downs, the story is finally getting more interesting again.

One of the most important things that are currently on the fans’ minds is the fact that the fate of Megumi Fushiguro currently hangs in balance. Megumi is an incredibly important character who’s currently suffering quite a lot and could have things getting even worse for him if the author decides to do so. Thankfully, there is a plan to save him in place and fans are currently clinging to it.

Megumi’s Dark Fate

Megumi Fushiguro was destined to meet a very dark fate in JJK. Ever since Sukuna made a binding vow with Yuji, fans knew that at some point in the story, Megumi would be in trouble. This manifested itself in the Culling Game arc, where Sukuna finally took over Megumi’s body after speaking the word “enchain” and transferring from Yuji to Megumi. Unlike Yuji, Megumi did not have the capabilities of controlling Sukuna and that is precisely why he ended up falling victim to the King of Curses. Ever since then, Sukuna has completely taken over his body and used his powers as if they were his own. In fact, it is using his own powers that he was able to kill his very own sister, and of course, later down the line, Gojo as well.

Megumi has faced a very tragic fate here and if he ever does manage to wake up, whether he will be able to comprehend the reality of what he did is something that fans would be very interested in seeing. However, those are questions for later, as right now, Megumi’s very life isn’t guaranteed either. To make things worse, Sukuna then reincarnated into Megumi’s body when he was fighting against Kashimo. This was a technique that he could use only once and it healed his injuries, and at the same time, made him stronger. Now, he is at the peak of his abilities, with Megumi’s life slipping away from him with each passing chapter. That said, Yuji and Yuta are trying their best to rescue him and it might require quite some effort in order to see it through.

Yuji’s Role In Saving Megumi

Yuji is pivotal in the attempt to save Megumi and defeat Sukuna. For one, he’s the protagonist of the series and also Megumi’s closest friend. He is the one who is going to be shouldering most of the burden and this is especially true in his case because he was the former vessel of Ryomen Sukuna as well. To some level, Yuji might be blaming himself for this, however, he also knows that now is not the time to be saddened by the fact that he was the reason all this happened. Instead, Yuji is trying to use his powers to save Megumi and it is quite clearly possible using the abilities that he possesses. As has been mentioned earlier in the story, Yuji has the ability to alter souls. In his case, Yuji can use this ability that goes along the lines of soul capture. Essentially, he can strike souls directly inside a person and leave lasting damage, which is what makes him truly fearsome. It is because of this reason that Yuji was a natural enemy to Mahito and it is because of the very same reason that even Sukuna fears him at the moment.

Each punch that Sukuna takes, shakes his very soul, and, as Sukuna put himself, his punches are so powerful that his own cursed energy output drops with each one he takes. At the same time, his grip over Megumi’s soul weakens as well, which is what Yuji is aiming for. The more he does this, the weaker Sukuna gets and the weaker his grasp over his Megumi gets as well. When the grasp is weakened enough, then, Yuji can, perhaps, deliver the final blow, which can weaken Sukuna to a level where he can no longer control Megumi’s body properly. That will be the queue for Megumi to attempt to fight back and take over his body once again.

Yuta’s Role In Saving Megumi

While Yuji is pivotal in trying to get Megumi back, Yuta’s role is also incredibly important. As fans know, Yuta has recently tapped into his domain expansion, called Authentic Mutual Love. This is an incredibly powerful domain expansion and it sees him channel the incredible power of Copy into his domain, making it truly unrestricted. Inside his domain expansion, Yuta can give one technique that he has copied a sure hit effect, meaning that it will land, no matter what. Of course, as Sukuna himself has predicted, this technique is likely Jacob’s Ladder, which fans know as an extinguishment technique. Using this power, even the cursed object inside of Megumi can be extinguished and if that were to be the case, Sukuna would cease to exist.

This is yet another way in which Megumi can be saved and is likely tied to what Yuji is currently doing. Once Yuji weakens Sukuna enough using his soul capturing punches, it would then be up to Yuta to utilize the sure hit effect of his domain expansion to launch Jacob’s Ladder, and then, purify Megumi’s body and cleanse Sukuna from him. Once that happens, Sukuna will have nowhere to go and Megumi will be resurgent once again. Of course, this is easier said than done and fans already know that saving Megumi will be very difficult. It is highly likely that one of Yuta or Yuji will fail as that would make the story more interesting, however, in the end, Megumi will have to be rescued by someone.

Of course, there is also a possibility of Megumi eventually dying, however, given that so much effort has been put into saving him, at this point, it is highly unlikely for him to perish. At the same time, Sukuna also has to be defeated, no matter what. For that reason, it is a given that Megumi will return to the story at some point. For now, the battle to rescue Megumi still rages on, however, fans also know that it is certainly not going to be easy for either Yuta or Yuji. Fans will have to hold on tightly and hope that the duo of Yuta and Yuji to pull through and rescue Megumi before it is too late. One thing that fans can now be certain about is that Megumi is likely not returning before the end of the series.
