Melbourne star Josh Addo-Carr made history on Thursday night when he became the first player to score six tries during an elite-level Australian rugby league game in more than 70 years.

The NSW Origin winger returned the remarkable haul in a 50-0 demolition of South Sydney, putting the Rabbitohs’ NRL premiership hopes in serious doubt.

No team in history has conceded 50 points in a season and gone on to win the premiership that year.

In a miserable night for the depleted Rabbitohs, NSW Origin winger Addo-Carr ran riot on the right edge with four tries in the first half and two in the second.

Addo-Carr is the first player to score six tries in a game since Jack Troy did it for Newtown in 1950 .

The 50-point victory brought to an end Souths’ seven-game winning streak after injuries ravaged their side through the week.

But of even bigger concern, they’ll have to defy more than 100 years worth of history to win the NRL premiership this season.

As promised, the Storm ran heavy traffic at halfback Benji Marshall and came up with gold through Addo-Carr.

He went hunting with Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Justin Olam to pillage South Sydney’s right side defence at Stadium Australia.

Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett adjusted by benching winger Steven Marsters after Addo-Carr scored his third 30 minutes in, but even with Jed Cartwright plugging the gap the leaks kept coming.

Without Latrell Mitchell, Adam Reynolds, Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham, Souths were struggling and the Storm went into the sheds at halftime up 26-0.

South Sydney looked most likely in the opening minutes when prolific try-scorer Alex Johnston crossed but his effort was called back for a forward pass in the lead-up.

Soon after, the Storm turned on the jets behind the ruck with Munster and Grant toying with the defence, opening gaps for Brandon Smith and Jahrome Hughes to get on the board.

On the other edge of the field, George Jennings also grabbed a double.

It was just the second loss of the year for the Rabbitohs who went down 26-18 to Melbourne in the season opener when Ryan Papenhuyzen scored four tries.

It was another loss too for Bennett, who has a miserable coaching record against Craig Bellamy.

The Storm coach now has won 29 of 39 games against Bennett-coached sides.

After adding another to his tally, the Storm leapfrogged Souths, the Sydney Roosters and Parramatta into second on the NRL ladder.
