PORT ST. LUCIE — Jose Quintana’s Mets debut left him with plenty of room for improvement.
The Astros bashed the veteran left-hander on Tuesday, ending his afternoon with only two outs in the first inning. Over 30 pitches, Quintana allowed five earned runs on four hits and one walk against the Astros.
“Not good, for sure,” said Quintana, who arrived in December on a two-year contract worth $26 million.

David Hensley’s two-run homer off the batter’s eye in center field was the big hit, but Quintana also allowed three doubles in the inning. Quintana will pitch again Sunday before departing to represent Colombia in the World Baseball Classic.
Quintana, 34, had a 2.93 ERA in 32 starts last season with the Pirates and Cardinals.
