Jose Mourinho insisted he was ‘unhappy’ with Manchester United being awarded a ‘cheap’ penalty to rescue a point against Tottenham.
After Steven Bergwijn’s opener in the first half, Eric Dier’s clumsy challenge on Paul Pogba in the 81st minute gave Bruno Fernandes the chance to equalise from the spot.
VAR then overruled a second penalty call from referee Jon Moss again involving Dier and Mourinho spoke after the game about the key decisions in the 1-1 draw.
‘It was hard to manage the game. I am not also happy with the penalty and not happy with the second penalty,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘I am unhappy with the VAR, not the referee on the first, the referee in the game can make a mistake, can give a cheap penalty, but then the VAR is there to do the job.
‘I am not unhappy with Jon Moss, I am unhappy with VAR. In the second penalty I am unhappy with Moss because he didn’t give the free kick [leading up to it], he let it go and then gave a cheap penalty, a non penalty. In this case the VAR gave the truth in what happened in the box.’
‘I think [Dier] was fantastic,’ Mourinho continued. ‘I think he played very well.
‘Him and Davinson (Sanchez), I think Davison had one mistake in the first half whereby a technical mistake the ball went to (Marcus) Rashford and Rashford has that chance.
‘Apart from that I. think they both played very well and Dier for me was perfect.’
Speaking the BBC, Mourinho reiterated VAR should have intervened and reversed Moss’ decision as it did with the second incident.

‘I think difficult to find the word, I have to try to find a nice word – a strange penalty because the team was so compact, so well organised,’ Mourinho said.
‘Paul Pogba did his job. That is it. I think Jonathan Moss was also trying to do his job the best he could. I think the VAR is a different situation.’
The results leaves Tottenham six points adrift of fourth place and keeps United in fifth place, four points ahead of Spurs.
