After some mistakes in the backend for Tottenham Hotspur at Newcastle, coach José Mourinho has made three changes to his team, particularly in the back. Eric Dier and Serge Aurier have been returned to the back four as Joe Rodon and Sergio Reguilon maintain their spots following Spurs’ disappointing draw. Beyond that swap in the back, Heung-Min Son has returned to the attack, moving Carlos Vinicius back to the bench.

Tottenham’s Trusted Attack

With the season – in terms of top-four hopes – on the line for Tottenham Hotspur, José Mourinho takes his front three he most trusts to give him the effort and energy he needs to succeed. Heung-Min Son returns to the starting line-up for the first time since leaving in the first half against Arsenal last month.

Son along with Lucas Moura provides the most energy on the wings Tottenham will get, as both Son and Moura will provide push forward and support for the backs behind them. We would like to see Tottenham continue to use two forwards to maintain the pressure on a suspect Manchester United backline but can understand Mourinho opting for his three most trusted attackers.

The other big change for Tottenham was at the back of the team, which is not a surprise following the mistakes last week at Newcastle. Eric Dier has been on the bench for the last six Spurs matches losing his spot following the loss to West Ham. Rodon provides a solid tandem to mix with Dier, as he provides the athleticism and energy needed next to Dier’s leadership.

Davinson Sanchez was dropped entirely from the side while Japhet Tanganga moved to the bench with Aurier coming in on the right. With Marcus Rashford pushing up the left flank for United, Aurier is the safer choice.

Now whether or not these changes are enough to help Tottenham find the balance in the back they need will be seen in the 90 minutes, Spurs fans sure hope so. If Tottenham can avoid fouls defensively and stretch the United backline, the game can be theirs. Hopefully, the changes can help make that happen.

What do you think, is this a good starting lineup?
