Jonathan Gannon’s defense outdone by Chiefs offense in 2nd half of Super Bowl

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to interview Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon Monday. That comes after his defense was both great and then not good in Super Bowl LVII.
The Kansas City Chiefs won the game and became world champions for the second time in four seasons with a 38-35 win at State Farm Stadium.
Gannon’s defense was overtaken by the Chiefs’ offense in the second half.
Through the first half, the Eagles’ defense held the Chiefs to only 20 plays for 128 yards. They did not allow a third-down conversion.
The Eagles led 24-14 at halftime. One of the Chiefs’ touchdowns was a defensive score, so the defense allowed only the opening-drive touchdown.
Things changed in the second half.
The Chiefs scored on all four possessions. They scored 24 points on Philly’s defense. They had 221 yards of offense. The Chiefs converted on 4-of-5 third-down attempts.
The Eagles, who had the most sacks in the NFL, did not get one in the Super Bowl.
In the regular season, Gannon’s defense was No. 2 in yards allowed and eighth in scoring defense.
The Chiefs were too much.
