There is a great deal of excitement surrounding running back Joe Mixon’s fantasy football prospects in 2024 following his reported trade to the Houston Texans.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to trade Mixon to the Texans, negating a previous report that Cincinnati planned to release Mixon.

During his seven years with the Bengals, Mixon was a one-time Pro Bowler and he rushed for over 1,000 yards on four occasions, including last season when he finished with 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns, plus 52 receptions for 376 yards and three scores.

The 27-year-old wasn’t always the sexiest pick in fantasy, but he was a consistent performer who usually delivered a solid return on investment.

Mixon benefited from playing in a stacked offense headlined by quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, and it can be argued that he is perhaps going to an even better offense in Houston.

As a result, fantasy football experts and managers are hyped up about what Mixon could potentially do with the Texans:

Last season, the Texans were among the most surprising teams in the NFL, as No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud established himself as one of the best young quarterbacks in the game and won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

He thrived under first-year offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who will be back in 2024 after receiving some head coaching interest.

The Stroud-Slowik combo helped Houston rank 12th in the NFL in total offense and 14th in scoring offense last season, both of which were significant upgrades from 2022 when the Texans ranked 31st in both categories.

Along with the arrival of Mixon, the Texans are set to return Stroud, tight end Dalton Schultz and a deep group of wide receivers that includes Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods and Noah Brown.

Because of that, the Texans have top-five upside as an offense, and Mixon would benefit significantly, especially in terms of scoring touchdowns, which is gold in fantasy football.
