Jets’ Saleh: If Wilson plays like that, we’re going to win a lot of games

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh offered words of encouragement for Zach Wilson after his team’s de facto starting quarterback performed well during Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I thought he was really good,” Saleh said following the 23-20 defeat. “He gave us a chance to win the game, brought us back. If he plays like that, we’re going to win a lot of football games.”

The Jets trailed 17-0 after the first quarter but outscored their opponents 20-6 over the remainder of the contest.

Wilson finished 28-for-39 with 245 yards and two touchdowns in the losing effort. However, a late, potentially game-costing fumble seemed to haunt the young QB.

“Yeah, that’s on me,” the 24-year-old said postgame, according to CBS. “Critical situation, I can’t have a play like that. I cannot drop the ball … I lost us that game.”

Wilson became the Jets’ primary signal-caller when Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in the team’s first game of the season.
