Jets have ‘no life, no spirit, no belief’: Mike Francesa, Boomer, Darrelle Revis (and others) gang up on Gang Green
Jets #Jets
Every once in a while, an organization or a fraternity raises money for charity by letting people take a sledgehammer to a junked car. You pay your buck, spit on your hands, grab the handle, and swing as hard as you can.
Welcome to Jets Twitter.
On Thursday night, when the Jets embarrassed themselves in a 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium— and likely ended the Zach Wilson Experiment for good by benching him yet again — the NFL world lined up to take a whack at the Jets Jalopy.
Wham! Wilson was 9-for-18 for 82 yards with an interception for a 41.9 passer rating.
Wham! The Jets’ playoff hopes took a devastating hit with a fourth consecutive loss — the worst streak under second-year coach Robert Saleh.
Wham! It came in their regular-season home finale — in front of a national television audience.
Wham! Remember in 2020, when the Jets were 0-13 and rolling toward the No. 1 pick to get Trevor Lawrence? They won two meaningless games, missed out on Lawrence, and then passed on Justin Fields? Where would the Jets be today with either one of them at quarterback? No wonder fans at MetLife Stadium booed for three hours straight.
Well, they were booing on Twitter, too.
Former WFAN drive-time host Mike Francesa:
“Jets WRs played about as well as the starting QB.”
“Jets have let Wilson’s problems bring the entire squad down. Saleh hasn’t helped the situation.”
Damien Woody, ex-Jets offensive lineman
“This is beyond embarrassing for the Jets.”
“Jets OL beyond atrocious and it’s been that way for some time now.”
Darrelle Revis, former Jets All-Pro cornerback
“zach wilson has lost the trust of the Jet fanbase. im not saying it’s impossible. it will be very hard to regain their trust again. i witnessed these same boos when brett farve was under center.”
Bill Simmons, analyst and podcaster
“This is a legendary Zach Wilson performance. I don’t know if it’s possible to have a worse fan experience at a home NFL game unless the Jets were also shooting dog [poop] into the stands with a T-shirt cannon.”
Boomer Esiason, CBS analyst and former NFL quarterback:
“The Jets offense is dead at the moment. No life, no spirit, no belief. Time for a change at QB.”
“Wilson is lost. This is like the 2nd Pats game. The qb has got to elevate team. The Jets players are playing as if they know they can’t win. Given the environment with the weather and fans, they don’t have a shot.”
Mike Greenberg, ESPN host:
“In no way am I trying to exonerate Zach Wilson, but… The #Jets offensive line is a disaster. Injuries have taken a huge toll. They can’t run it at all, QB is under constant duress, plus all the penalties. That’s not helping.”
“But … There’s so much to be optimistic about as a #Jets fan. Team is loaded with young talent. Defense is elite. Need to put O-Line back together and sign a decent free agent QB. With average quarterback play, this team could be special next year.”
“The road back from this is going to be rough for Zach Wilson in New York. What an abject disaster.”
Roddy White, former All-Pro NFL receiver:
“I’m watching this Jags and Jets game and these fans booing Zac Wilson this ain’t his fault this espn fault Mel and Todd gassing these teams on these qbs and y’all know they ain’t that good. Kid should’ve never been drafted in the first round.”
