Jets Busy After Acquiring Brenden Dillon, Re-Signing Paul Stastny

Winnipeg addresses its defensive issues by acquiring Brenden Dillon from the Washington Capitals on Monday evening.
According to a report by TSN’s Darren Dreger, defenseman Brenden Dillon is off to Winnipeg.
The Jets traded over two second-round picks to the Capitals in return for the 30-year-old defenseman. Dillon has three years remaining on his deal at $3.9 million, making him the second most expensive defender on the Jets behind Josh Morrissey’s $6.25-million cap hit.
Winnipeg is Dillon’s third team in three seasons after the Dallas Stars moved Dillon at the deadline to the Capitals in February of 2020.
Dillon is coming off of a 19-point effort in a shortened campaign, which would have likely put him above his career-high 22 points in a full season. Dillon played just over a full minute less per game than he did in a 10-game stint with the Capitals to end the season but has otherwise showed value as a middle-pairing, big-body defenseman.
In other news, the Jets are keeping forward Paul Stastny for another year after signing him to a $3.75-million deal. At 35, Stastny’s offensive value has dropped over the past two years, finishing with 38 and 29 points, respectively. Stastny will continue to be a reliable, effective veteran in what should be his second full season with the Jets after previously getting a taste with the team in 2018.
