Jess Glynne revealed time away from the spotlight helped her become more appreciative of her ‘own skin’ as she geared up to take the stage at Wembley over the weekend.

The 33-year-old Grammy winner recently returned to the charts with a mid-tempo ballad Silly Me and claimed her latest tune was the beginning of a ‘new era’.

She explained that while she ‘didn’t leave’, she enjoyed a well-needed moment away from thrilling crowds as a number one hit-making artist and was keen for fans to get to know the Jess as ‘she is now’.

Jess’s last album Always in Between was released in 2018 and peaked at the top of the UK charts during that same year.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk at the Capital Summertime Ball with Barclaycard, she opened up about her break and how it has changed her position as an artist.

She said: ‘I didn’t leave, I took a moment. I feel… you know what, life is a crazy thing and we learn and we grow and we become more comfortable in our skin and more sure of who we are and I feel like I’m in a really good place.’

The Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself singer continued chatting about the song that she felt defined her return to music.

‘I love that song, I love that message and it wasn’t like a genius decision like let’s do this and like some mastermind behind it – it was genuinely just a gut feeling,’ she revealed about her new single.

Jess continued: ‘I’m super proud of all the songs on this album and it just felt really right bringing out Silly Me. I like the messaging, I like the feel… so that’s why.’

The star later got real about her next chapter and had nothing but excited sentiments to share: ‘This new era is exciting, I think it’s fresh, it’s unexpected and I feel like people are going to get to see Jess as she is now.

‘I think that’s super important because as you say as time goes by and we grow and we change and I’m not the same person I was five, six, seven, eight, nine years ago – so yeah it’s exciting!’

So, with all that being said, who really is Jess Glynne in 2023?

‘Hold tight and get to know.’

Silly Me is available to stream now.
