Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown Made Celtics History Vs. 76ers In Game 1

The Jays have arrived in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

Leading the Boston Celtics to a 109-101 victory in Game 1 over the Philadelphia 76ers, star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown balled out on both sides of the ball, reminding the rest of the league that none of them want to have to go through the Celtics this postseason if it can be avoided.

And in the process, they made history.

Brown dropped 29 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win, shooting 56% from the field. He had five 3-pointers, passing Antoine Walker to become sixth on the Celtics’ all-time list for postseason triples, and when the game was close late in the third quarter extending to the fourth, he took over, dropping 15 points in the final frame alone.

Tatum, meanwhile, had a game-high 32 points (21 of which came in the first half), with 13 boards, three blocks and an assist, shooting 48% from the field.

With those performances, the duo is the first pair of Celtics teammates age 23 or younger with at least 25 points apiece in the same playoff game, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Additionally, Tatum became the youngest player in franchise history with a 30-point, 10-rebound playoff game, per analyst Doris Burke on ESPN’s broadcast of the game.

“It’s what they’ve done their whole careers, you know, in the playoffs, in the regular season, they’ve just consistently gotten better,” Brad Stevens told reporters on his postgame video conference. “But they make big plays and timely plays and they both did tonight. A couple of Jaylen’s 3’s were enormous.”

Their teammate, point guard Kemba Walker, spoke to the duo’s excellence as well.

“Special,” Walker said. “Those two dudes are super special talents. They showed it today. Every big moment they made big plays. Whenever we needed a big play they made it, and it’s just fun to watch. It’s really fun to be a part of their growth and hopefully they just continue to get better with what they’re doing.”

We can’t wait to see what Tatum and Brown accomplish through the rest of the playoffs.
