Jay Leno Celebrates 25 Years Of The Iconic Porsche Boxster

It has been 25 years since the Porsche Boxster was launched and in a new video of Jay Leno’s Garage, the comedian takes a trip down memory lane while also driving the new Boxster 25 Years edition.

During the clip, Leno reveals that he was at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show when the Boxster concept was first shown to the world but despite that, he had never actually driven a Boxster before filming this video.

The Boxster may not have quite the allure of the Porsche 911 but as it is mid-engined, it is arguably better balanced than the rear-engined Boxster. As Boxsters goes, the 25 Years variant is particularly special.

This special edition model was unveiled at the start of the year and has been built exclusively for the North American market and has design elements inspired by the original Boxster concept from 1993. For example, it features copper-like paint on the front and side air intakes, the 20-inch alloy wheels, and the unique ‘Boxster 25’ badge found at the rear.

Powering the sports car is the same 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine as the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, producing the same 394 hp and 309 lb-ft (419 Nm) of torque. This engine can be coupled to either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch that powers the rear wheels. With the PDK, the car can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds.

Leno describes the Boxster 25 Years as an excellent sports car when he takes it out onto the road and seems to be won over by it, even though it isn’t a 911.
