JaVale McGee says Lakers MAGA parody hats were J.R. Smith’s idea

MAGA #MAGA

The Los Angeles Lakers got a lot of people talking with their matching pre-game attire ahead of Tuesday’s Game 1 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. LeBron James and the rest of the squad pulled up to the game rocking Make America Great Again parody hats that flipped the message of Donald Trump and turned into a call to action to arrest the cops that killed Breonna Taylor.

While the message was great, the delivery wasn’t exactly ideal for many. But while it appeared to be another classic moment of LeBron having the whole team wear the same thing, as he had the Cavaliers do in the 2018 playoffs, the idea apparently wasn’t his. At least, according to JaVale McGee, who said that the idea for the hats came from J.R. Smith.

The Lakers struggled offensively in Game 1 and will likely shoot the ball better in Game 2. But it feels pretty safe to say they won’t be bringing those hats out again. No matter whose idea it allegedly was.
