Both Liverpool and West Ham fans have been reacting to the news that Jarrod Bowen was left out of the Hammers friendly against newly-promoted Brentford.

The 24-year-old is a name that has been touted with a move to Anfield this summer.

With the Reds set to lose Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah due to the African Cup of Nations, there has been speculation that they have their eye on the wide department.

Bowen signed for David Moyes’ side in January 2020 after spending six years with Hull City as they slipped down the divisions.

In his first full season in the top-flight, he scored eight goals in 38 league appearances as Moyes lead the Hammers to European football securing a place in the UEFA Conference League.

Ibrahima Konate remains the only arrival to Anfield, this summer, after his £36m move from RB Leipzig with Bowen mooted as one of the future incomings at Liverpool.

But both Reds and Hammers were quick to spot one key omission from the Scottish managers’ squad to face the Bees.

West Ham confirmed that he was missing from the squad due to a “minor” injury problem, but it didn’t stop fans speculating over his future in London.

The ECHO believes that recruitment staff believe Bowen to be the type of player who would not only provide a boost in terms of quality, but also be willing to initially take on a back-up role.

He is a player who would typically fit in the system in place with the Reds with his versatility across the front three and also occupies similar qualities to Diogo Jota.

Time will tell how serious the 24-year-old’s knock is after missing the Hammers penultimate friendly as they round off their preparations with a friendly against Atalanta next Saturday.

Liverpool will arrive in Evian today and prepare for two 60-minute matches against Bologna with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in line to gain crucial first-team minutes after their long injury lay-offs.
