Jarrod Bowen shines as West Ham beat Brighton emphatically despite having just 20 per cent possession

West Ham were dominated by Brighton but it didn’t stop them from taking all three points back to east London with a 3-1 victory.
David Moyes’ side entered the new season off the back of European success courtesy of their Europa Conference League trophy win.

Transfer activity got off to a slow start but they soon added the quality they needed from the £105million sale of Declan Rice, a huge departure for the club.
An opening weekend draw with Bournemouth was followed by a huge 3-1 win over Chelsea, and it got even better for West Ham on matchday three.
They travelled to a Brighton side who claimed two wins from their opening two games, dismantling both Luton and Wolves 4-1.
However, they were unable to make it three in a row when up against West Ham, despite enjoying a whopping 82 per cent possession.
One of the Hammers’ summer signings James Ward-Prowse scored his first for the club to give them the lead after 19 minutes.
It has seen the midfielder continue his fine start to life in east London after a dazzling debut against Chelsea that produced two assists.
Brighton proved last season in the Premier League that they are no pushovers and certainly possess quality in the attack.
However despite all their efforts, they were unable to provide a response before the break.

It’s something that West Ham took full advantage of, in particular Jarrod Bowen as he scored their second just before the hour mark.
The winger ran onto the end of a delightful ball from Said Benrahma before poking it past Bart Verbruggen in the Seagulls’ goal.
Bowen then turned provider five minutes later as his pass found Michail Antonio, who spun his man and fired into the bottom corner.
West Ham then hit the crossbar as they entered the final 10 minutes, with Pascal Gross scoring Brighton’s consolation goal soon after.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side continued to huff and puff for any sort of comeback as the clocked ticked down but to no avail.
They may well have had the lion’s share of possession, but it was West Ham who had the last laugh on the south coast.
