Jarrett Stidham takes over as Patriots QB for Brian Hoyer after disastrous start vs. Chiefs

Brian Hoyer’s first start with the New England Patriots lasted less than three quarters.

After three major mistakes and leading the offense to just three points well into the third quarter, Hoyer was benched during Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham was brought in to take over.

Stidham led the Patriots to a touchdown on his first drive of the night, a 5-yard touchdown pass to N’Keal Harry in the corner of the endzone.

Hoyer was tabbed as the started after Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. It didn’t go well. Hoyer displayed accuracy issues throughout the night, with one high throw resulting in a first-half interception.

Hoyer’s big mistakes came in the red zone. He took a disastrous sack in the final seconds of the first half, preventing any shot the team had at a field goal.

Early in the third quarter, Hoyer had the offense going with some solid throws. However, it all came crumbling down when he was stripped on a bad sack, causing a turnover that ended his night.

Here’s Hoyer’s final statline for the night: 15-of-24, 130 yards, 1 interception, 59.4 passer rating.
