James Maddison: Leicester star’s honest interview after 6-2 loss vs Spurs

Leicester City remain winless in the Premier League after a demoralising 6-2 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur.

The division’s bottom club made the daunting trip to north London in search of their first three points of the 2022/23 season, but were instead on the receiving end of a thrashing.

Leicester‘s current talisman James Maddison levelled the scores at 2-2 towards the end of the first half with a stunner and for a short period of time, it looked like Brendan Rodgers’ side might finally get a result.

Things went badly wrong in the second 45 minutes of play, though.

A goal from Rodrigo Bentancur after some sloppy play from Wilfried Ndidi and a hat-trick from substitute Heung-min Son condemned Leicester to yet another defeat.

Leicester have just one point on the board after seven Premier League matches and possess a goal difference of -12, which is the second-worst in the division.

It was certainly a day to forget for the Foxes, although Maddison is one member of the squad who can leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his head held high.

The former Norwich City man was brilliant throughout the match and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

Everything good Leicester produced came through Maddison and the finish for his goal was absolutely superb.

He’s just a quality footballer, isn’t he?

As well as being a class act on the pitch, Maddison is a class act off of it, something he proved once again in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

Maddison was clearly emotional when he discussed the match with Geoff Shreeves, but he still gave quality answers and defended his manager in the process.

The midfield maestro was also cruelly asked about his England snub earlier in the week, something which he also handled with class.

It’s rare, very rare indeed, that you see an interview that good from a footballer after they’ve just been beaten 6-2 ahead of an international break.

Some of the questions from Shreeves felt a little like he was kicking a man while he’s down, but Maddison kept remarkably cool in front of the cameras.

Kudos, James.

Fan reaction to Maddison’s interview

Leicester and Maddison now have a two-week break to regroup before their next Premier League match against Nottingham Forest – which is quite simply a must-win for them.

Will Rodgers be on the touchline in that match? You wouldn’t bet on it…
