Leicester City midfielder James Maddison starts for England in their European Championship qualifier against Ukraine.
The Leicester midfielder’s only previous appearance for the Three Lions came as a substitute in a Euro 2020 qualifying win over Montenegro back in 2019. He was a member of Gareth Southgate’s squad at the World Cup in Qatar last winter, but did not make an appearance.
Maddison has scored 42 goals and contributed to 30 assists across almost five years in the Premier League since joining from Norwich City in 2018.

And his impressive performances for Leicester have led to him being named in the England line-up for the first time. But many City fans are pointing out that he is being played out of position as England line-up in a 4-3-3 with Maddison playing on the left-wing.
Here’s what Foxes fans have said about the news…
Mike Biggs: About time, but being played out of position
GK1: No good on the wing though
John Lewis: Out of position lol
James Latham: Left-wing?!
KRseok: Finally Maddison starting
RedLeicester: At least we should get a few more quid for him in the summer now (especially if he plays well)
Blake Hoyland: GET IN! Good luck James!
