On Sunday evening, James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers got eliminated by the Boston Celtics after losing Game 7 of their second-round playoff series by a score of 112-88.
James Harden had several good games in the series, but he struggled in a big way during Game 7.
The 2018 MVP scored just nine points on 3/11 shooting from the field and 1/5 from then three-point range (he also had six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block in 41 minutes of playing time).
Following the game, Harden met with the media and was asked about head coach Doc Rivers (via the NBC Sports Philadelphia television broadcast).
Reporter: “When you got here, you said that one of the reasons you wanted to come if I’m not mistaken, was Doc. How has your relationship been with Doc, and would you like to see him back?”
Harden: “Uh, our relationship is ok.”
Harden was traded to the 76ers during the 2022 season (via the Brooklyn Nets), and they have lost in the second round of the NBA Playoffs each season.
The former Arizona State star will have a decision to make this summer when he can either opt into a $35.6 million player option for the 2023-24 season or become an unrestricted free agent.
Despite the disappointing end to the year, Harden averaged an outstanding 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 10.7 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 44.1% from the field and 38.5% from the three-point range during the regular season.
