A new report gives some updates on how James Gunn’s hunt for a new Superman and Lois Lane is going, and that it’s still not a done deal.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn has been busy with the potential cast. He reportedly brought in actors in pairs on Saturday, June 17 which broke down as Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey. The men were attired as Clark Kent, and multiple scenes were tested.

On day two, Sunday, June 18, all three men came back, but in Superman costumes, and only Emma Mackey was tested as Lois. Sources did caution that Mackey being the only woman on day two should not be taken as an indication that she has locked the role.

The screen tests were assembled by Wednesday, June 21, and they were shown to Warner Bros. Discovery executives. A decision could come as soon as this week.

Following the casting of Clark and Lois, Gunn will move on to Lex Luthor. The shortlist reportedly contains both Alexander and Bill Skarsgard. Nicholas Hoult was considered at one time, but it’s unclear if he would be in the running should he not get the role of Clark.

It’s clear Gunn is taking his time with this, and we don’t expect that to change.
