James Corden has become a favourite with celebrities, thanks to his hilarious Carpool Karaoke segment on his late night U.S. talk show, The Late, Late Show.

However, speaking to News Corp Australia’s The BINGE guide on Sunday, the British comedian admitted that he initially had doubts about signing on for the role.

The 42-year-old, who relocated to America with his family prior to filming the talk show in 2015, said he was concerned the new gig would end his acting career.

‘I was worried it would end my career as an actor, taking on the Late Show,’ James explained.

‘I asked my dad about it and he said, “If you build a show where people can see all the different things you can do, provided you don’t stick around too long, it could only enhance your career as an actor”.’

James also told The BINGE Guide that there’s no chance he will ever become egotistical.

‘I’ve made more mistakes than I would care to ever admit but I do feel now in my life, I’ve got enough people around me to tell me when I might be veering towards being an a***hole,’ he said.

James’ career as an actor has certainly been enhanced, having landed roles in various films, including voice-over work, since the talk show’s debut in 2015.

The father-of-three will next be seen in Netflix’s musical film The Prom, alongside an A-list cast including Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Kerry Washington.

Inspired by a true story, the musical follows a group of Broadway theatre stars who strive to change the views of a high school in Indiana, after they fail to allow a female student to take her girlfriend to the prom.

James reiterated his doubts about the success of The Late, Late Show, during an interview with UK’s The Sun in 2018.

‘I’m still surprised today [about the show’s sucess], in truth,’ he said.

‘When we moved here we rented a house and we rented furniture because I remember saying to Jules, my wife, “There’s no point buying anything because we’re just going to have to try to sell it and inevitably leave it a garage somewhere, let’s rent furniture”.

‘In truth, history’s littered with people who’ve come and tried to make a show or something in America and it hasn’t worked.’
