Jake Paul says Kamaru Usman is embarrassing himself and would get ‘destroyed’, as Canelo shuts down crossover with UFC star

Jake Paul says UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, would get ‘destroyed’ by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez if they were to have a boxing match.

Canelo also chimed in on Twitter telling Usman that, for the time being, he is not interested in a crossover fight.

“I think it’s interesting,” Paul told talkSPORT, “but Kamaru Usman is a mid-to-low-level boxer. It would be embarrassing for him. he would get destroyed very, very easily.

“Kamaru Usman, might I remind everyone, went 25-minutes with Tyron Woodley and barely did any damage to him from a boxing perspective then I come in and knockout Woodley.

“So now, Kamaru wants to fight Canelo? It’s sort of out of pocket. He’s looking for a payday and exposure and all those kinds of things, but it would be smarter for Usman to start with someone at my level if he would want to have somewhat of a chance.

“But, other than that, it’s whatever. He’s locked up into his contract, he’s not his own boss anyway.”

A crossover fight would pit the pound-for-pound kings of UFC and boxing against each other, but it seems that Canelo has other ambitions he wants to deal with first.

He replied to Usman on Twitter: “You calling me out right? You want the pay day right? So you know where, but sit down it’s not your turn yet I have a legacy to make.”

Usman is not the only man with plans to take on Canelo, as Jake Paul revealed that he also wants to fight the Mexican eventually.

“Facing Canelo would definitely be the peak of my career.” Paul said, “I think I would become a world champion and then fight Canelo as my fight after that when I’m in peak physical condition and in my prime.”

For the time being, however, Canelo is focused on his upcoming WBA light heavyweight world title clash with the unbeaten Russian champion, Dmitry Bivol, on May 7th.
