Jak Alnwick comes good for St Mirren in penalty drama

St Mirren went through to the semi- finals of the Scottish Cup after these nerve-shredding 120 minutes and penalties at Rugby Park last night. The visitors won the penalty shoot-out 5-4, courtesy of Jak Alnwick’s save from Rory McKenzie’s spot-kick.

A penalty award to Kilmarnock after 101 minutes of play was disputed: Kyle McAllister claimed he had won the ball in the challenge on Brandon Haunstrup but the referee Don Robertson was having none of it, and Ross Millen swept the ball home. But then St Mirren, amid excruciating late drama, won and converted their own penalty through Jamie McGrath after 119 minutes, sending the tie to the shoot-out.
