Jadon Sancho given Man Utd future update after Alejandro Garnacho breakthrough

Sancho #Sancho

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho has been warned he may have to leave on loan this summer. Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has given a worrying verdict on the England international’s future at Old Trafford.

Sancho has started just 18 Premier League matches so far this term. The £73million signing from Borussia Dortmund is yet to live up to his billing nearly two full seasons after joining.

His presence in Erik ten Hag’s side has often depended on whether Marcus Rashford has played as the central striker. But there is also further competition in the form of Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho has enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign and recently committed his long-term future to United. Collymore believes the Argentine should get the nod over Sancho for the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Collymore wrote in his Caught Offside column: “You would assume that Wout Weghorst won’t be trusted to lead the line, so Marcus Rashford is likely to start up top with Antony on the right-hand side, and if that is the case, it would mean either Jadon Sancho or Alejandro Garnacho starts on the left. Personally, although I am a big fan of Sancho, I would start with Garnacho.

“He’s young, quick and very technical so I think he’d provide the likes of Kyle Walker with a lot more to contend with. Garnacho is Man United’s maverick; unlike Sancho, he is arrogant and bursting with confidence, and although an occasion as big as the FA Cup final may overwhelm some players, I see the young Argentine thriving in that kind of environment.”

Collymore believes it would be a major blow to Sancho for a teenager to overtake him in the pecking order at Old Trafford. He reckons the former Manchester City academy star should look for a loan move if that ends up being the case.

Collymore added: “If Sancho finds himself on the bench and behind an 18-year-old breakthrough prospect next month then I would fear for his Man United future. He’s still young and has the time to reach the level he was tipped to, but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if fans see him go out on loan.

“I am certain all the top sides in Italy and Germany would take a look at him and either bring him on a season or two on loan, but if the Red Devils would prefer to sell him, they’re going to have to accept a loss on him.”
