Jacob deGrom exits start against Royals with wrist soreness after four no-hit innings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Uh-oh.
After four pristine innings against Kansas City, right-hander Jacob deGrom left his start Monday night with what the team called a precautionary move after he complained of some right wrist soreness. He will continue to be evaluated.
DeGrom had not allowed a hit in four innings, walking one and striking out five. He had struck out Salvador Perez on a 100 mph fastball and then got a first-pitch fly ball from Kyle Isbel to finish off the fourth.
He was replaced by Dane Dunning, who allowed a one-out hit to Matt Duffy in the fifth to break up the no-hitter. Dunning, however, did not allow the run to score and the Rangers took a 4-0 lead to the sixth inning.

The Rangers operate with extreme caution where deGrom is concerned because he lost most of the last two years to injuries. He was brought along very slowly in spring training due to a bit of side soreness when he reported to camp. He ended up pitching on opening day, as planned, but was on a restrictive pitch count.
Since opening day, deGrom has pitched 17 innings, allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out 25. He has not allowed a homer and has allowed just three walks.
