Jacksonville police called to two reports of teens with guns within a few hours

Jacksonville police responded to two incidents involving teenagers with firearms in the course of a few hours Monday night and early Tuesday.
Police were sent to the 400 block of West Douglas Avenue at 8:38 p.m. Monday after a caller reported seeing someone with a gun.
According to police, a 17-year-old boy had pointed a firearm at several people in the area.
He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
A few hours later, police were called to an area around Franklin and East streets for a report of someone, possibly armed, trying to break into cars. While looking for the person, an officer observed a vehicle make a moving violation and stopped the driver at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday at Central Park Plaza, according to police.
A passenger in the car, whom police said matched the description of the person trying to break into cars, bolted from the back seat and fled the scene.
That passenger, a 17-year-old boy, was caught after a short foot chase and a stolen handgun was recovered, according to a police report.
The teen was charged with unlawful use of a firearm by a felon, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and possession of a stolen firearm. He also was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault from a previous incident, police said.
