Jacksonville Jaguars claim former Steelers guard Derwin Gray
Gray #Gray
I’m sure this wasn’t how the Pittsburgh Steelers thought this was going to go. The Steelers waived guard Derwin Gray ahead of Sunday’s game with the Indianapolis Colts to make room on the roster for pass rusher Cassius Marsh.
The plan, I would assume, was for Gray to clear waivers and the Steelers would then sign him back to the roster this week. Gray was very good filling in at guard two weeks ago against the Cincinnati Bengals.
But the Jacksonville Jaguars messed everything up when, according to the league transaction report, claimed Gray off waivers. This leaves the Steelers minus one more offensive lineman with one game left in the regular season and Matt Feiler not quite ready to return from injury.
Gray sat in his jersey and helmet on Sunday watching the game, wishing he could be on the field to help. Now, instead of being a key depth player for a playoff team, he will finish out the season on the hapless Jags.
Truth be told, the Steelers had much better options to waive over Gray and they wouldn’t be figuring out how to replace him now.
