Jack Grealish’s comments have turned Newcastle star Miguel Almiron into ‘a world beater’

Newcastle star Miguel Almiron has been in fine form ever since Jack Grealish’s comments back in May.

After Manchester City clinched the Premier League title, a jubilant Grealish stole the show in the title parade when he made a sly dig towards Almiron.

Grealish was captured saying: “There were two secrets… one, Riyad [Mahrez], take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like [Miguel] Almiron. Number two, [pointing at Silva] he’s been so good this season, get him off the pitch.”

It may have been a joke, but Almiron clearly took it to heart as he has started this season looking like a completely different player under the guidance of Magpies boss Eddie Howe.

In eleven Premier League appearances so far this campaign, Almiron has managed to find the back of the net on five occasions, he is now enjoying his best goalscoring season since he moved to St. James’ Park back in 2019.

In Sunday’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Almiron found the back of the net in the 40th minute with a wonderful solo effort, which helped the Magpies secure a 2-1 win against Antonio Conte’s side.

Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher made a reference to Grealish’s comments when praising Almiron. The former Liverpool defender said: “This fella is a different player and the man that’s motivated him is not just Eddie Howe, it’s Jack Grealish.”

Fans have also reacted to Almiron’s upturn in form.

One fan said: “Yeah Almiron really took that Grealish comment PERSONALLY.”

Another tweeted: “Jack Grealish’s comments have turned Miguel Almiron into a world beater. Can we get a video of him insulting Riyad Mahrez, please?”

A third fan added: “Jack Grealish should talk about more players. What he’s done to Miguel Almiron is insane.”

Unfortunately for Grealish, Almiron has outperformed him in every department since he made the comments. Almiron has five goals whilst the City winger only has one.

As a result of the win, Newcastle are now in fourth place in the Premier League table, two points behind third-placed Spurs.

After the match, manager Howe praised his team and labelled their performance against Spurs as the best of his tenure.

Where will Newcastle finish this season? Only time will tell.
