Jack Butland’s Stoke City nightmare could be about to end with a shock move to Liverpool.
England’s youngest ever international goalkeeper, who was once tipped to become a Three Lions regular, has seen his career spiral downwards.
Now aged 27, Butland last featured for Stoke in July in a 5-0 hammering against Leeds United. He lost his first-team place to Wales international Adam Davies and is desperate for a move to rekindle his career.
With just 12 months of his contract to go and being one of the club’s highest-paid players it appears to suit both parties for Butland to end his seven year stay in the Potteries.

A move is still on the cards with the domestic transfer window open until Friday, permitting deals between Premier League and EFL clubs.

That has led to negotiations between Liverpool and Stoke with manager Jurgen Klopp missing the injured Alisson for six weeks and worries over back-up keeper Adrian, who leaked SEVEN goals against Aston Villa.
It means that Butland could be involved against Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
That would trigger memories of what could have been for the Bristol-born stopper. He quickly established himself as a teenager at Birmingham and had made his England senior debut at the age of 19 before a£4million move to Stoke.
The 6ft 5in rising star was valued at £30m when clubs looked to take advantage of Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League.

But his form at the bet365 Stadium fluctuated and he was left out by then-manager Nathan Jones. He has again found himself out of favour under current boss Michael O’Neill.
Ex-England keeper Paul Robinson said: “I can see Liverpool signing the likes of Jack Butland on a short-term deal.
“He is a player who has experience of big games.”
