The J.J. Watt era in Houston is officially over.

On Friday, with a report that the Texans cut the legendary defensive end who gave everything and more to the franchise that drafted him 11th overall in 2011, Watt took to Twitter to announce the news himself: that he had asked ownership for his release and that the team granted it.

“We have mutually agreed to part ways at this time,” he said, before launching into a long, heartfelt thank-you to Texas and the city of Houston.

Here’s the entire video that he released on Friday morning, as he gets ready to join another NFL franchise:

Watt finishes his storied Texans career with 101 sacks in 10 seasons, leading the NFL twice in that category, with five All-Pro selections, the 2012 and 2014 AP Defensive Player of the Year awards and the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
