It’s Tate’s game: Rodemaker steps in for injured Jordan Travis vs. Cardinals

Florida State’s Tate Rodemaker was praised for his poise during preseason camp.

That poise expects to be tested by the Louisville Cardinals Friday

Rodemaker – a redshirt sophomore quarterback from Valdosta, Georgia – was forced in action with four minutes left in the second quarter when starter Jordan Travis was knocked from the game with an apparent lower leg (left) injury.

A limping Travis was helped off the field and headed in the direction where MRI/X-ray technology is located at the stadium.

Jordan Travis returns to sidelines with boot on ankle

FSU coach Mike Norvell told ESPN following halftime that Travis would not return to the game.

Travis returned to the FSU sidelines in the second half on crutches with a boot around his left foot/ankle.

Travis started the game 11-for-11 before he finished 13-of-17 for 157 yards. He threw touchdowns of 3 yards to Preston Daniel and 21 yards to Malik McClain. He also suffered an interception.

Rodemaker didn’t have much luck moving the offense late in the first half.

He was 1-for-3 for minus-6 yards with an interception. He was also sacked once.

Replacing Travis on third-and-22 from the FSU 24, Rodemaker’s initial pass attempt to Johnny Wilson near the sideline was incomplete.

After the Seminoles forced a turnover on the Cardinals’ ensuing possession, Treshaun Ward ripped off a 28-yard run to the Louisville 20.

Louisville sniffed out a pass to Ward, tackling him for a 6-yard loss.

After Rodemaker was sacked for a 10-yard loss, he tossed an interception under pressure in the flat.

Rodemaker’s backup is freshman AJ Duffy.

The Cardinals led 21-14 at the half.
