‘It’s not working for Jack Grealish at Man City’ – £100m England star questioned after underwhelming Champions League display

A year on from Jack Grealish’s £100million move to Man City and it hasn’t quite clicked yet.

The 27-year-old was underwhelming in City’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, playing 58 minutes before being replaced by Phil Foden.

Grealish is undoubtedly talented, but he is still to justify that huge fee that was paid to Aston Villa last summer.

The winger has six goals in 43 games for City, but is yet to really make an impact in the 2022/23 season.

talkSPORT hosts Adrian Durham and Micky Gray think that Grealish has become a little too predicated and his move isn’t working out.

Durham said: “We said at the start it was a big opportunity for Jack Grealish to show what he can do.

“All he can do is run down the left wing, dribble, no early ball coming in. Phil Foden did exactly that, there were early balls coming in, he was going left and right and causing all sorts of problems.

“All he [Grealish] is go down the left, cut in on his right, shoot and it’s easily blocked.

“I don’t see anything there. He’s been here over a year and I don’t see anything there from Jack Grealish.

“I’d be surprised if he’s in the England squad.”

Gray added: “I’d be surprised too. He got 58 minutes tonight and we tried to big him up before the game saying this was a huge opportunity for him.

“His game has become predictable and that will be a worry for Pep Guardiola because whoever he comes up against, they know exactly what he’s going to do.

“He’s not the player he was at Aston Villa, he’s now part of huge stars at Man City and is not the standout star.

“It’s a worry going forward. It gets to the 60 minute mark and they are going to make a change, it’s always going to be him.

“I feel for him. That £100m price tag on his head is very hard. He’s been told to play in a system that doesn’t suit him.

“He’s a great player, but it’s not working for him at this football club.”

Grealish’s performance was also discussed on The Sports Bar and former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy thinks he is getting away with not performing at his best while City are still playing well.

He said: “When you come from Aston Villa and you are the big head at that club. And he was, he was captain, the talisman and the man that made everything tick.

“You go to Man City, and you’ve got dozens of them. They’ve let two go. That’s what he’s got to deliver, assists and opportunities and goals. He has to make a difference.

“Right now, he isn’t making a difference. City are not struggling, even though he’s not hitting the peak for you want.”
