‘It was a huge mistake’: Rick Santorum says he has ‘no idea’ why Trump didn’t condemn white supremacy

Former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum was a tough critic of President Trump’s debate performance.

Santorum, a political commentator on CNN, questioned why the president didn’t explicitly condemn white supremacy when he was asked to during Tuesday night’s debate between Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.

“The president got hurt tonight,” he said, adding that Trump came out too “hot.” Santorum also said that Chris Wallace, the moderator, was “overwhelmed” with the president’s repeated attacks.

In particular, he was surprised that the president didn’t explicitly condemn white supremacy when he was asked to do so by Wallace.

“Proud Boys, stand back and stand by, but I’ll tell you what: Somebody’s gotta do something about antifa and the Left because this is not a right-wing problem. This is a left-wing problem,” Trump said.

Santorum, in response, said, “He did not answer the question directly, and he should have, and it was wrong. I have no idea why he didn’t. He’s done it before. He’s done it before. But he has condemned white supremacist groups before. Why he didn’t do it when directly asked that, I have no idea, and it was a mistake.”
