After setting up temporary shop in a room at Lux Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Mt. Pleasant, the Isabella County Clerk’s Office is moving to an office building on West Pickard Street.
Clerk Minde Lux said the office will be open beginning Friday at 510 W. Pickard St., the temporary location of some county offices while asbestos is being removed from the administration building on North Main Street in Mt. Pleasant.
When the administration building was evacuated in October after asbestos was found during work on the heating and cooling system, Charlie Lux offered space at the funeral home on South Lincoln Road to temporarily house the clerk’s office, as other county offices including administration, treasurer, Michigan State University Extension and the register of deeds moved to 510 W. Pickard.
Effective Friday, the clerk’s office will be on the first floor at that building, to the right of the front doors.
County officials hope the asbestos abatement and remodeling of the administration building will be finished by the end of the year.
Until the work is complete, offices housed in the administration building are at the Isabella County Commission on Aging building; 510 W. Pickard; 614 W. Pickard; and the Isabella County Courthouse.
Isabella County Parks and Recreation, and community development are located at 614 W. Pickard, while the Isabella County Prosecutor’s Office is operating from the courthouse.
Isabella County Veterans Affairs is operating from the COA building, located at 2200 S. Lincoln Road in Union Township.
Other county offices located at 510 W. Pickard are the drain commissioner and equalization.
