Isaac Paredes, Freddie Freeman named Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet

Infielder Isaac Paredes of the Tampa Bay Rays has been chosen the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, and All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.
Paredes earned his first career Player of the Week Award and is Tampa Bay’s second winner this season, following his teammate Manuel Margot for the period ending May 8th. Freeman claimed his sixth career Player of the Week Award and his first with the Dodgers, last accomplishing the feat in September 2016 while a member of the Atlanta Braves. Freeman is Los Angeles’ second recipient of 2022, following his All-Star teammate Cody Bellinger for the week ending April 24th.
Other noteworthy AL performances for the week included two-way All-Star Shohei Ohtani (7 H, 3 HR, 10 RBI; 13 SO, 2 H, 8.0 IP) of the Los Angeles Angels; starting pitcher Dylan Cease (1-0, 0.69 ERA, 24 SO, 13.0 IP) of the Chicago White Sox; backstop Alejandro Kirk (.450, 5 R, 4 HR, 9 RBI) of the Toronto Blue Jays; All-Star outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (.316, 6 R, 4 HR, 7 RBI) and starter Cristian Javier (1-0, 13 SO, 0 H, 7.0 IP) of the Houston Astros; and starter Frankie Montas (0.00 ERA, 8 SO, 2 H, 8.0 IP) of the Oakland Athletics.

Rookie outfielder Riley Greene of the Detroit Tigers earned his first career Play of the Week Award and is Detroit’s first winner since his teammate Daz Cameron in May 2021. In the bottom of the sixth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Greene sprinted to right-center field to lay out and make the fully extended diving catch. Additional Play of the Week candidates included Jack Suwinski’s catch over the wall in foul territory at Tropicana Field; Kyle Tucker’s catch against the wall to prevent an extra-base hit; Cedric Mullins’ fully extended diving catch in right-center field; and Taylor Walls’ diving stop from shortstop and throw from one knee to nab the runner at second base.
