Woolworths is coming back! We can’t wait any longer to tell you, because, honestly, this news gave us SUCH HAPPINESS this morning that we wanted to let you know. Woolworths is reopening.
Yes, Woolworths is set to return – we can’t stop saying it – to the High Stree at the end of 2021.
Who said there wasn’t anything to look forward to anymore.
The Woolworths news come via a new Twitter account launched this morning, on a new Wooworths UK Twitter account, saying: ‘Here to save 2020! Woolworths is coming back to your high street, as a physical store!’
The store, which closed its final 199 shops in the UK on 6 January, 2009, will reopen in late 2021 with three trial stores.
It’s yet to be announced where those three trial stores will be.
And while they’ve not confirmed yet what will return, we can’t help wondering… PLEASE by the time end of 2021 comes, we might have a vaccine that will mean the pick n mix is back?! PLEASE.
CD singles though, we’re not so sure there’s much of a market. But stationery section, we’ll see you there.
It’s not clear yet who is behind the rebirth. The online Woolworths store is owned by Very, and the account says some contracts still need to be signed.
It looks like the team behind the relaunch decided to make the announcement after Twitter user @theequalitydan posted pictures of old Woolworths stores yesterday, and the post went viral.

Around 27,000 people lost their jobs when the store – a High Street favourite – closed 807 stores in 2009 and they were unable to find a buyer. That year, Littlewoods owners Shop Direct bought the trademark and sold from Woolworth.com, but it was closed in 2015 and it became rolled in Very.com, according to the Retail Gazette.
But, should you really be having a nostalgic yearning for Woolies and you really CANNOT WAIT until the end of next year for some joy, we’ve got good news for you. On eBay there is a LOT of random Woolworth merch to be found. Whether you’ll actually want to buy it or not… we’ll leave that with you.
