Sean Hannity and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) had a heated exchange Wednesday night over whether Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) or the group of Republicans keeping him from the speakership, which includes the Colorado congresswoman, needs to cave.

Hannity pressed Boebert on her side’s decision not to support McCarthy even though he has the majority of Republicans’s votes, while Boebert maintains that it is McCarthy who needs to cave in because he does not have the necessary number of votes. Boebert is part of a group of 20 Republicans who blocked his bid for speaker of the House on the six votes so far.

HOUSE DELAYS SEVENTH SPEAKER BALLOT UNTIL THURSDAY FOLLOWING RAUCOUS VOTE TO ADJOURN

“Kevin McCarthy has 202/3 votes, your side has 20. So, if I’m gonna use your words and your methodology, and your math, isn’t it time for you to pack it in and your side to pack it in considering he has over 200 and you have 20?” Hannity asked Boebert during his show on Fox News.

“Sean, I understand the frustration, I promise you, but he does not…” Boebert said before being interrupted by the TV host, who claimed he was not frustrated and that she didn’t answer his question.

The interview did not seem to get on track at any point, with both Boebert and Hannity steadfast in their positions. “I feel like I’m getting an answer from a liberal,” Hannity said at one point, with Boebert talking over him with the words, “I’m not going to support Kevin McCarthy, Sean.” She then repeated that phrase, adding, “If I’m the last person standing, which I don’t believe I will be…”

Hannity claimed Boebert was not abiding by what she told former President Trump, who endorsed McCarthy after three initial failed speaker votes.

“I love President Trump, you’re not going to turn me on him, you’re not going to pit him against me,” Boebert said.

“That’s what you said to him!” Hannity responded.

Boebert even floated the idea of nominating Trump for the speakership, to which Hannity replied, “Is this a game show?”

The heated interview underscores the turbulent nature of the House speaker votes for the Republican Party, where a consensus cannot be reached.

The House delayed the seventh speaker vote on Wednesday evening to Thursday at noon after a raucous vote to adjourn. This is the first time since 1923 that choosing the speaker has taken more than one ballot. Each of the votes is recorded by individual roll call in alphabetical order. Democrats have all voted for Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
