Morgan Freeman sent internet users down a spiral after rumours swirled that the veteran actor passed away.

It all started when a username @altadenic on X, formerly Twitter, claimed that the 86-year-old actor had been “dead for two days,” expressing surprise at the lack of news coverage.

Naturally, fans of the beloved actor refused to believe the person, prompting them to quote their tweet with a fabricated screenshot from Google, which listed his date of demise as February 27, 2024.

Tributes began pouring in for Freeman after the visual ‘proof’, with fans taking a trip down memory lane to remember him for his most famous roles.

However, many advised against the dissemination of false information.

“If Morgan Freeman died WE would know,” wrote one in the replies.

“Y’all are really sick why do yall be playing with peoples lives like this ? There’s nothing else you could’ve lied about for clout ???” another fumed.

Users explained on social media that fans presumably mistook singer Peter “Peetah” Morgan, member of the Jamaican-based band Morgan Heritage, as Freeman, who died earlier this week at the age of 46.

And though there hasn’t been any official confirmation from the actor’s camp, a video clip of World War II veteran Robert Curtis Andry from Morgan’s recent docuseries about 761st Tank Battalion members was posted on his official Instagram account on Wednesday.
