Iowa’s Caitlin Clark declares for WNBA draft: ‘It is impossible to fully express my gratitude’

Caitlin Clark announced Thursday she’s declaring for the WNBA draft.

The Iowa star made the announcement on social media with one game left in the regular season.

“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa,” Clark posted on social media. “I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft.”

She scored 33 points to lead the sixth-ranked Hawkeyes to a 108-60 win of Minnesota Wednesday, pushing her past Lynette Woodard on the all-time list with 3,650 points.

“It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me me during my time at Iowa – my teammates, who made the last four years the best; my coaches, trainers, and staff who always let me be me; Hawkeye fans who filled Carver every night; and everyone who came out to support us across the country, especially the young kids.”

The Indiana Fever hold the No. 1 pick in April’s draft for a second consecutive season.

Clark has one year of eligibility remaining due to COVID-19 exemptions. Clark won consensus National Player of the Year Honors as a junior in 2023 while leading the Hawkeyes to the national championship game.

She is averaging a career-high 32.2 points and 8.7 assists alongside 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 46.9 percent. She’s now 18 points from passing Pete Maravich, who owns the NCAA scoring record for men or women with 3,667 points in three seasons at LSU.

Iowa faces Ohio State on Sunday in the regular-season finale.
