IOWA CITY — Iowa football is short another offensive weapon.
Tight end Erick All Jr. exited in the first quarter of Saturday’s 15-6 win against Wisconsin with what appears to be a right knee injury. He was later seen
Kirk Ferentz said his status is “not good.”
“We’ll know early next week, but it’s tough,” Ferentz said. “Wish I had good news. I don’t have bad news yet, but we’ll know that Monday or Tuesday.”
The hit by a Wisconsin player that caused the injury did not seem to injure All’s always-positive mindset, though.
“I talked to him on the sideline,” quarterback Deacon Hill said. “He’s always in good spirits, just cracking jokes. I don’t know how a man like that is cracking jokes at that time.”
The Hawkeyes already are without starting quarterback Cade McNamara and starting tight end Luke Lachey, who suffered injuries requiring surgery.
As long as All and Lachey are both out, the Hawkeyes will be without their top two players in receptions and receiving yards.
Addison Ostrenga also was out against Wisconsin, which meant the Hawkeyes were without their top three tight ends. Steven Stilianos, Johnny Pascuzzi and Zach Ortwerth were among the players to get snaps at tight end amid the injuries.
Ferentz said earlier in the week that Ostrenga had a “chance” of playing at Wisconsin, but he later said a return against Minnesota was more realistic.
