The Atlanta Falcons selected Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the draft to add explosion to an already-potent group. Pitts will instantly upgrade the offense for Arthur Smith. He’s an explosive talent on the field who could really open up the middle of the field on seam routes. His long-term comparison is Tony Gonzalez.

Pitts isn’t just a tight end, though. He can align on the line. He can play in the slot. He can play out wide. He can be a “move” or “F” tight end. The Falcons are planning to keep Matt Ryan around as the starting quarterback. Adding Pitts to a group that already featured Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage, Hayden Hurst and Mike Davis as receiving options only makes the team more dangerous.

Atlanta got arguably the best non-quarterback in the draft with this selection. They will gain a lot of versatility in the scheme and a lot of explosion on offense. Adding a unicorn like Pitts will only make the Falcons a better team –both in the short term and in the long term.
