Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny continues to be a hotbed of rumors. Now, director James Mangold is back to dispel rumors about reshoots and alternate endings for the film.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to be Harrison Ford’s last adventure as the titular archeologist. Because of that, the film has been shrouded in secrecy, leading to rumors and speculation. Claims have ranged from Indiana Jones being erased from history at the end of the film to the movie having to undergo reshoots due to poor test screenings. All of these claims have set the fanbase on edge, and they appear to be a source of vexation for Mangold.

In a series of tweets, Mangold rallied against “trolls” and said the final sequences of Indiana Jones 5 were not reshot, nor were any alternate endings filmed. When asked by a fan about composer John Williams’ comments (Williams had previously said he was scoring a reshot ending), Mangold clarified that Williams was mistaken. Mangold also praised Williams’ score for the film and said that though some small pieces were left on the cutting room floor, 99% of it was in the final film and “brilliant.”

Mangold has previously revealed a lot of behind-the-scenes information about the film. For instance, Mangold revealed he wanted nothing to do with the Volume, a state-of-the-art special effects stage used on projects such as The Mandalorian or Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Instead, he wanted to stick to the franchise’s roots and rely on practical effects.

Ford was previously emotional on stage when he presented footage from Indiana Jones 5. While the movie’s plot is unknown, Ford was pleased with how the movie turned out. Given that he’s played the character for more than 40 years, it’s likely that he wouldn’t be so pleased with the final product if it weren’t an appropriate ending for Indy.

Indiana Jones 5’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge also seems similarly enthused. She will play Helena, Indiana Jones’ goddaughter. Rumors have circled her character as well – a common claim stated that Helena would be taking over Indy’s mantle by the end of the film after he’s erased. To that, Mangold also expressed that Indiana Jones would never be replaced.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
